About Bidar

Bidar is located at North Eastern Part of Karnataka and is also known as "The City of Whispering Monuments". It is rapidly developing and has become a famous tourist spot in the North Karnataka region. People in this region are proficient in speaking multilingual languages (Multiple Languages). It shares borders with Maharashtra and Telangana. Bidar is famous for its Bidri handicraft and is also considered as one of the holiest places for Sikh community pilgrimage because of Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib Temple.

Guru NankJhira Sahib Temple

Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib Temple is one of the holiest places in the world for Sikh as it was visited by Guru Nanak Sahib Ji and people of all religion are welcomed here. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji had visited Bidar during 15th Century when there was acute shortage of drinking water in this region. Seeing this bad condition of the place and people living here, Guru Nanak Sahib Ji uttered few Sar Kartar, moved few stones rubbed his wooden sandal on the hill. Water emerged from that point and started flowing from that place. Guru Nank Jhira Sahib Temple was constructed in 1948 by the side of the spring and,is surrounded by valley’s and hills from three sides.

Bidar Fort

Sultan Alla-Ud Din Bahman of the Bahmanid Dynasty had built fort of Bidar during 1427. There are around 30+ monuments inside the fort which has Persian and Turkish architecture. It is a tourist spot and many Bollywood, Hollywood and Sandalwood movies were directed in this fort.

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple

It is well known temple in this region as Lord Narsimha (avatar of Lord Vishnu) had come here to this cave to kill Jalasura (Demon). It is one of the unique temples in India as you need to walk through chest deep water in the cave tunnel to take blessing of Lord Narasimha. It is said that the water in this cave has healing properties for people suffering from skin diseases.

Bahmani Tombs

There are 12 tombs in single compound of Bahmani Sultans located in Ashtur village of Bidar District. Bahmanid Sultanate was the first independent Muslim kingdom in South India.

Papnash Shiva Temple

It is the most popular Lord Shiva temple in the city. It is believed that Shivalingam(Lord Shiva idol) was installed by Lord Ram on his way back to Ayodhya during Treta-yuga.

Rangin Mahal

Rangin Mahal also called as painted palace is located inside the Bidar Fort complex. It is built in 16th century and is situated near Gumbad Gate, Quran have been inscribed on the entrance arch and you find multicolored tile work framed inside the mahal. You need written permission from ASI (Archaeological Survey of India)Office situated near the fort to visit Rangin Mahal.

Solah Khamba Mosque

It is the ancient mosque situated inside Bidar Fort, which was built by Qubil Sultani during 14th Century. Solah Khambba Mosque is a large Mosque (Place to worship Lord Allah) got its name from the 16 pillars that are constructed in line front of the structure.

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa is an ancient Islamic college which taught Indo-Islamic architecture and was built in the 14th Century. It is part of the list published by monuments of national importance and protected by Archaeological Survey of India and State Archaeology Department, Karnataka. It was built by scholar named Mahmud Gawan (Persian trader from Iran) with his own money. It was a fully functional residential University during the 14th and 15th Century

Chaubara

Chaubara is known as clock tower which is cylindrical in structure it gives commanding view of entire city from the roof top.

Chaukhandi of Hazrat Khalil Ullah

It is a historical structure which was built in the honor of Hazrat Khalil Ullah who was a spiritual advisor of Sultan Ahmed Shah.It has beautiful architecture featuring calligraphy and stone work above the arched doorways.
